Our Queens are bred for the best hive performance possible. This includes better honey production, brood rearing capacity, varroa resistance, gentleness and low swarming tendency being the main aims. The Queen is the most important part of any hive and ensuring your hives have the best possible performance will give you the best results.
Our beekeepers breed our queens in multiple locations in rural Marlborough. Our breeder hives have Queens with proven genetics and traits optimized for honey collection and pollination. The Putake team are incredibly skilled with decades of experience in identifying the characteristics of a queen bee that will make a difference to your business and love the process of selecting the breeder queen to feeding, grafting, incubating and selecting your queens before shipping them off to you.
We offer a limited selection of over wintered queens and a can supply mated spring summer and autumn queens, in the southern hemisphere, from September through March and northern hemisphere customers from February through to August. Before we dispatch to you our mated queens are checked for their laying patterns, physiological disposition and general colony health.
Our queens and attendant bees are shipped in JZBZ mailing cages inside our exclusively designed fully recyclable cardboard box. We use an overnight service around NZ although rural delivery can take up to 3 days so please if you live rurally consider sending them to the depot for collection or a town address.
Queen Cells are also available October through March. We graft and start cells in queens less hive boxes above a queenright box with a cloake board. Our process ensures we produce large well-fed cells, we maintain a rigorous quality control process including measuring cell size and observe emergence weight. We sell queen cells as a minimum of 10 cells. Queen Cells can be collected from us or we can deliver these in person or by our super-fast internal courier service in incubation boxes for large orders.
